Enchanted Girl
I’m thinking of an enchanted girl
she might be thinking of me
she’ll be cashmere soaking in Zero—
I’ll be pipe tobacco and tweed,
I’ll be half hearted with fear
she will hide her pain,
she’ll keep baskets of pebbles
—each one a memory
I’ll show her driftwood pieces
—each one a wish
And when we say goodbye
she’ll say “until soon” —and
each time if that is all,
it’s more than I’ve expected to know.
